A highly respected industry expert of 30+ years and former managing director of Magna Global, Victor Corones is a significant contributor to the media industry.
Through his many contributions and leadership of numerous industry initiatives, Victor is a champion of the need to improve the way we work for our people and our businesses. He is a strong supporter of talent, in particular an early pioneer of flexible, work from home and remote working options for working mothers. Orion Managing Director Jackie Edwards says he began advocating for change for women 15 years ago, ahead of most in the industry.
"We needed part-time work, flexible hours and unusual work patterns to be able to continue our career progression in our new found jobs as mums. Victor fought hard for us at a time when the industry attitude was that the work always came before family."Victor, thank you for your strength, and for the part you played in helping the industry to change; it made so much difference - paid maternity and paternity leave, IVF subsidies, parental career leave and a whole lot of mums and dads who aren't afraid to say, "It's my day to do the school pick-up run, I'll be back online later."
To deliver on his mission to improve the way we work, Victor leads the agency development of radio automation, was a founding member of the MFA Outdoor Futures Council, represents the industry on the OzTAM board, and has led to the recent OOH audience validation project - to name just a few of his recent industry projects. As the chair of the MFA Systems committee since 2012 - one of the MFA's most active committees, he drives industry improvements to benefit all of us.
Grant Blackley, CEO of Southern Cross Austereo and Commercial Radio Australia Chair, who has known Victor since the 1980s, praised Victor's passion, breadth of knowledge and power of collaboration. "He enjoys a thoughtful and questioning manner, provoking good discussion among his peers. This leads to productive group decision making and positive momentum in most issues he is involved with," Blackley said.
OZTAM CEO Doug Peiffer described Victor as a committed advocate for Australia's media communication industry. "It is no exaggeration to say that OZTAM, media agencies andadvertisers are better off for having Victor's active engagement over many years. He is a worthy recipient of the Industry Contribution MFA Award for inspiring positive change."
Former Commercial Radio Australia CEO Joan Warner also spoke highly of Victor's outstanding contribution to the Australian media industry as a champion of innovation. "He is a talented and positive change-maker who has brought the media agency and commercial radio industries close together and is a well-deserved recipient of this award," Warner said."As a member of CRA's Automation & Programmatic Committee and Chair of the MFA Systems Committee, Victor's invaluable knowledge has helped accelerate the benefits of automation, and guided the development of RadioMATRIX, commercial radio's cloud-based advertising buying platform connecting 370 commercial radio stations and 200 media agencies."
